About Us
Our Story
Elltee was established in December of 2023. We both seemed to be at a place in life where we were just craving creativity. We stumbled upon ceramics, and that was it. Any free time we had was spent on researching materials, the techniques we wanted to master, and finding local pottery stores to get our supplies. We set up temporary studios in our living room and began creating, filled with excitement from the ideas we had for this new chapter.
Our Beginning
Though Elltee was established in 2023, our journey really began long before. We spent our childhood in our grandparents basement creating a world with clay. The basement was brightened with every colour under the sun from our modelling clay (stuck in between the tiles of their floor as well, much to their chagrin). But they loved it. We would spend hours upon hours recreating our favourite movie characters and coming up with ones of our own, playing out storylines that would go along with each of them. It was such a creative outlet for us and it was how we loved to tell stories. This is why Elltee is so special for us. After all these years later, to get to turn something that had brought us so much joy and peace into our very own business is truly such a pleasure for us. It is something we never even considered being able to revisit as adults, and it feels like coming home.
How It's Made
Every single piece that we create is handmade and the process is quite the journey. Each piece is first hand built by using one of our two preferred techniques. We use the slab technique for a more standard looking mug, and the pinch method to give some pieces a more organic look. Once made, the pieces have to sit out to dry for about a week, and only then are they ready to be fired in a kiln. Once that step is finished, (and hopefully everything survives with no cracks!) we then get to glaze our pieces before sending them out to the kiln once more. This is the final step in the process, and is the most exciting because it is when the items truly transform. Each piece requires a lot of time and effort to show up as part of our collections and that is why we are so excited to share these designs, and make these pieces just for you. We hope you love them as much as we do!
